The official video for the first single off of Leela James' album titled My Soul, is "Tell Me You Love Me," produced by Gerrard C Baker, my friend and fellow brooklyn native who also produced for the likes of Toni Braxton, Billy Crawford,Fabolous and Sean Paul. Gerrard also produced the intro to her album called "I aint new to this".


"Tell me you love me" was written by Andrea Martin who also wrote "It kills me" for Melanie Fiona which is on the radio currently. Andrea Martin has a long history of writing hits and can be easily found on Wikipedia, (she also wrote Better Man for Toni Braxton which Gerrard produced.)

The sample on this beat was actually lifted from one of my old records that i took over to Gerrard 's crib one summer,it was "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye" by the Manhattans. To have heard the original, then the beat then the song then to see it brought to life with a video is inspiring. There is still good music being made despite what many people say. IS IT ALL A GAME???? LIFE THAT IS.

Is it all a big game to keep you occupied?From the food you eat to the knowledge you are given to ingest and regurgitate? For example when there could possibly be a disaster "they" look for ways to break the news to not cause panic but on the reverse side when "they" are using scare tactics and having people running around crying Apocalpyse Now, should we not apply the same logic? Emotion is used to manipulate any situation or so it would seem. People are so used to Fake that they get scared when presented with the real.But what do i know???

Today marks the anniversary of the death of Christopher "Notorious Big" Wallace,artist, father and inspiration to many. I remember like it was yesterday walking home from school with headphones, downtown brooklyn listening to his first album "Ready to Die". A favorite of mine was "Gimme the Loot" , a graphic depiction of two stick up kids catching unsuspecting victims or vics. Big ushered in his own style of rap, describing himself as black and ugly as ever, he embraced his size and blackness but still had a player's smooth demeanor with his mastery of words, painting pictures every time he touched a track. Prior to Big's arrival on the scene, i will have to say that west coast rap dominated for the most part but after him the focus shifted back to the east. Big was one of the few rappers who could give you a grimy tale,make you laugh and impress the ladies all on one album. His greatest strength was storytelling which literally could put you right there in the as clearly shown on tracks like Juicy,I got a story to tell and Somebody's got to die. Big only was able to release Ready to Die before his death but all his music has still been able to touch fans as if he were still here today.
